Winter 2013/Summer 2014/Summer 2015 Creation of ASL movies
Before taking online teaching workshops, one faculty member made a suggestion of using "live" video (Camtasia) and PowerPoint on the same computer screen. During the Fall semester and winter break (December, 2013), Susanna spent countless hours (at least 400 hours) working on studying how to use Camtasia, and creating Camtasia movies in ASL. After the twenty-two movies were published, the total of hours was much shorter than her traditional lecture. Hence, it seems more economical and efficient.
During the summer break (Summer 2014), she revised the movies in order to separate mathematics writing and signs. She also added the transcripts created by GIS over 400 hours. In Summer 2015, Lisa Sentelle, our digital media specialist at the Center for Bilingual Teaching and Learning's (CBTL), helped create 33 short movies for GSR 104 Quantitative Reasoning classes. This contains Algebra (Units 6.1, 6.2, 7.2) and Scatter plots (Unit 12.6).
